Commander's Comments -

The winners of the E. Board election are Kent MacNeill and Don Tenille. Welcome aboard!

We lost three of our bartenders in the last three weeks, Debbie, Donna, and Heidi. Our bar manager.

We now have Marc, Heather, Deborah, Kim, and Danny who still works on Sundays. Marc is our new bar manager. These people are doing a great job at making a hard transition easy.  Thank you Ladies and gentlemen

The 60th anniversary of the U.S. Air force on Tuesday the 18th was a great success thanks to Lowell and his hours of work. Also to Mary Culhane and ALL the others including our excellent cook Brad.

Very important to make it successful, we need to have more people and their friends to sign up for the golf tournament on Sunday, October 21st at Lomas Santa Fe Executive Course!

1ST Vice Commander's Report -

Our membership is doing well.  At this time we have reached 50% of our goal.  However, that is the way it usually occurs - there are those individuals who renew within the first few months of a new Legion year.  Now is the time for all other members to send in their renewal dues ($35), one of the least expensive memberships anyone pays for any organization.  Please send in your membership renewal today so we may meet the membership goals which have been assigned to us by National.  Thank you to all who have renewed.

Dennis McGrory, 1st Vice Commander

Adjutant's Report -

The E-Board approved the formation of an ad hoc financial committee that is to last for three months, beginning September 10.  This committee will look into ways that the post might cut back on expenses.

The special election for two E-Board members took place on September 12.  The two new E-Board representatives are Don Tenille and Kent MacNeill.  We appreciate their volunteer service to our organization.

There will be a new opportunity to come and enjoy the post.  Monday Night Football will include a barbecue with bratwurst, hamburgers, hot dogs and a side of potato, macaroni salad or beans.  This effort is being coordinated by Mark Minor, our post’s newest bartender.

Thursday evenings have the weekly three-ball tournament.  This begins every Thursday at 7:30 PM.

Friday’s is bartender Kim’s special home made food, free pool games.  Every Friday from 4:30 – 6:30.

Remember that we are a participatory democracy at the post.  If you would like to change or challenge any decision made by the E-Board, you are both welcome and encouraged to come to the general meeting and speak up.  See you – and hear you there.

Let freedom and friendly wave.

Chris Morton, Adjutant

Chaplain's Report -

We mourn the loss of long time member Bob Giguere.  Our sincere sympathies are extended to his wife of 26 years, Charlene Giguere and the family.  I officiated at his service at Encinitas Mortuary at 10:00 AM, September 20, 2007.

Roy Blackburn is scheduled for surgery on his foot;  your prayers will be appreciated for his full and complete recovery.

Tom Saco is scheduled for leg surgery.  We wish him luck and pray for his complete recovery.

Bad-mouthing and back-stabbing are raising their ugly heads once again at the Clubroom Bar.  The bartenders must stop this behavior on the spot.  If you don’t have anything nice to say about someone, (in this case, me, specifically) KEEP YOUR LOUD MOUTH SHUT!!  If you have a legitimate complaint, put it in writing and present it at the next E-Board meeting for resolution.  REMEMBER, “YOUR SUGGESTIONS AND COMMENTS ARE WORTH A MILLION DOLLARS AT THE MEETING, BUT AT THE CLUBROOM BAR…..NO WORTH A DIME”.

Perry Comeau, Chaplain

SAL 1st Vice Commander's Report -

Fellow SALS, it is time again.  It is time to re-up and renew your membership. This year don’t just send a check, SHOW UP, GET INVOLVED.  Find out what MEMBERSHIP is all about and reap the rewards of your membership.  We have a general meeting on September 11, 2007 at 1800 hours.  Come down to the Legion.  Find out what is happening with the Sons and the other members of the Legion family.  Renew old friendships and make some new ones.

Another thing to consider is we have some fantastic events coming up and you don’t want to miss out on being involved.  We need ALL MEMBERS of Squadron 416 to get involved in one way or another.  Come to the meeting on Sept. 11th to find out more.

We need your input, your help and your wisdom to help the Squadron grow.  Come down and get involved.  If there are things you want to see the Squadron do, but can’t make the general meeting this month, please call or e-mail me with your ideas and we will get the ball rolling.

---For God and Country, in support of the Sons of the American Legion,

Phil Qualdieri, 1st Vice Commander

AUXILIARY NEWS

President's Report -

I want to thank John for doing my breakfast for me on Sunday , the 16th. I had to go to my first 5th area meeting. For new members a fifth area meeting is a meeting of all 5 District's from Southern Calif. The main topic was membership, so please help Roxene by getting your dues paid as soon as possible. Notices weren't mailed out so just get those dues here any way you can.

On October 27, we'll be having our annual Halloween party. Come for dinner and stay for the party. Come in costume if you choose and we'll be doing a special contest for the best HOBO COSTUME. It's easy to be a hobo, make it a Hobo Halloween. There will be light snacks and prizes. Amy, as usual will be in charge.

I want to thank all the cooks this month. There has been a lot of changes and it's been a little hectic in the kitchen but everyone has been generous and tried to work around each other. Thanks Brad, Julie, John, Encarnita, Kim, Mac, Dwayne.

A special thank you to Lowell for his birthday party for the AIR FORCE. IT WAS A VERY SPECIAL DAY for all who attended.
Volunteering is a special calling. If you can bake a cake or put in a little time at the Post you will be greatly appreciated. Even doing a few dishes after dinner would be a good thing.
We would welcome a few more members at our meetings so come on down and get acquainted.

Merry Culhane, President

1st Vice President's Report -

Ladies,

PLEASE, this unit needs you to pay your annual dues of $15.  There are about 137 of you that haven't sent your check to me.    We are currently at 30% of our goal and need to be at 50% by October 12th.  As I stated in the last newsletter, District or National did not and don't plan on sending out renewal notices to all of our units in District 22.  You may get a delinquent notice from them closer to December, but in the meantime, please just send me your check and I will send you your new card for 2008. In the November newsletter, all of your names will be listed that haven't paid yet. (When you see your name, don't consider yourself as being delinquent, it's just a reminder that we need your dues). The $15 isn't much for dues when you consider all the benefits that the American Legion Auxiliary can offer you, plus, the small amount that our unit gets to keep ($3) helps us keep all of our programs moving along.  Either mail me a check to the below address or drop it off at the Post in a sealed envelope with my name on it. And to all of our new members, please come to our next meeting the first Tuesday of October.  You need to be sworn in and get your membership packets with Auxiliary pin.   Thank you to all of our Auxiliary members that volunteered this past month - you know who you are and we appreciate your help.

Roxene McGrory, 1st Vice and Membership

2nd Vice President's Report -

Want to thank everyone that came to support our dinners in Sept., and also thank the members that did the cooking.  Our Meatloaf dinner was great, and one of our SAL members cooked for me.  Then we had Julie & Roger doing the Ham & Scalloped potatoes, thanks again.  Pres. Merry did her very large baked Hamburgers, Just about any way your want them.  And by the time you get this dispatch you can still be looking forward to Roxene's huge green salad with chicken and her great dessert.  She is doing it for $6.00...

Thanks again to all the cooks

We are planning a Halloween Party on Oct 27th, so mark it on your calendar.  We will be putting flyer's up at the Post, so keep checking.  Hope to see you there.  It will be after the Sat. dinner, so bring your costume or wear it to dinner.

We will be selling Raffle Tickets until the 29th of September so please buy some more, even if you have purchased some.  We need to get the TV paid off ASAP.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Paddle-out

Sunday, September 30, 2007 Check-in: 11:30 a.m. • Ceremony begins at 1:00 p.m.

Oceanside Pier & Amphitheater, 300 North Pacific Street, Oceanside, California 92054

Lunch will be provided and accompanied with traditional Hawaiian music and dancers, a helicopter fly-over and a 21-gun salute. Honored guests include Medal of Honor Recipients, the USMC Color Guard and distinguished speakers.

This paddle-out is in honor of those men and women who died during the Vietnam War.  In the spirit of the Hawaiian tradition, a ceremonial paddle-out is often performed by surfers who wish to remember and honor those who have given their lives. For many Vietnam Veterans, the ocean and the freedom of surfing has provided a unique escape from the memories of war.

Visit our website at http:VVMPaddleout.org for on-line registration and donations, or call (760) 707-6831.

Re-Cycling:

I AGAIN WANT TO THANK EVERYONE THAT IS HELPING ME RE-CYCLE....  BUT, IF YOU CAN HELP ME A LITTLE MORE, I ONLY NEED WATER BOTTLES, AND SODA BOTTLES.  (No Juice or beer bottles).  ALSO, I NEED LIDS OF THE BOTTLES REMOVED.  YOU CAN PUT THEM IN THE SAME BAG, BUT JUST DON'T LEAVE THEM ON.  It will help me immensely.

YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB WITH THE CAN'S

THANKS AGAIN

Shirley Reeves, Re-cycling Queen
