Commander's Comments -
Thanks to all of our auxiliary members that donated their time to work on cleaning up and replanting the south side of our building.
Thanks to all off the club and auxiliary members for working together on the many hours over the last two month period to make our auxiliary golf tournament a success.
Our new club chairman, Joe Farrell, is working on reorganizing and supervising how the bar area of our club works. THANK YOU for all the hard work Joe!
Lowell came to me with an idea of possibly selling T-Shirts to benefit anyone who lost or had damage to their home in our district due to the recent fires. Also I'll be spending as much time as I can to restart Monday night bingo for the rest of year.
All in all the club had a good month.

Adjutant's Report -
As of December, our current 2nd Vice will be moving out of the country. This important Post position will be open. If you would like to help run the kitchen, keep track of perishable stock and schedule meals, you are invited to take over this soon to be vacant slot. If you don’t do it, who will?
We have a new post member. His name is Dave E. Jones. He is a former soldier in the U.S. Army. Welcome Mr. Jones.
On Sunday, November 11 from 2 – 4 PM, the Post will sponsor the third annual “Make Your Chile At Home and Bring it in” cook off. Our first place winner three years running has been Paula Thom. I am planning on winning this year – even though all my previous entries have come in last place because my chili is scorching hot. All those interested in participating in this event will see the sign in sheet in the clubroom or simply show up with a pot of your best chili. Bring an appetite and a towel to wipe the beads of perspiration from your brow.
The E-Board voted to let the money remaining in the building fund roll over. At the present time, there was no immediate need to spend it.
Remember, Post members are always welcome to come and express their views at the General Membership meetings which are held on the 2nd Wednesday of every month.
Let fun, freedom and friendly wave.
Chris Morton, Adjutant
Chaplain's Report -
We mourn the death (9-26-07) of long time member and WWII veteran Elwood “Smitty” Smith. He was serving in the U.S. Marine Corps when captured by the Japanese at the age of 19, and remained a P.O.W. for the remainder of the war…4 long years. At the request of the deceased and subsequently the family, there were no services or memorials; only a “Party” at Cap’n Keno’s, which took place Thursday, 4 October 2007. Our sincere sympathies are extended to his family and friends. May he now rest in peace.
The mother of long time resident Bill Morgan (Vista SAL Member) passed away October 17, 2007. Our sincere sympathies are offered to Bill and his family.

SAL Commander's Report -
As there was a recent vacancy in the SAL leadership, I volunteered to help our friends, the SAL’s and I was elected SAL Commander on October 9th. We will be making the effort to find and recruit new SAL squadron members to become involved in our Post. On the 3rd of November, those SAL members who are interested in making this membership drive a reality will beet at the Post to discuss ideas on how best to promote the SAL squadron.
I’m looking forward to helping in any way that I can. I hope the SAL members are too. Together, we can make something happen!
Sincerely,
Chris Morton, Commander
AUXILIARY NEWS
President's Report -
Our MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY project sure made a difference.
Thanks to our Auxiliary gardeners and a few Post Members we can look at the
entrance to our Post with some Pride. Bill and Kate, Roxene & Mac, Kent, Nancy,
Ann, Sondra and myself were pulling weeds and cutting branches and moving rocks.
(Jerry dug a hole and I know Joe & Amy were there in spirit.) as I know a lot of
members were, but could not actively participate. Bill hauled away most of the
debris and Cris Hicks planted some of the flowers. Let's all try to keep it
watered.
Our Bazaar and bake sale will be the weekend of Nov. 17 & 18. The Bazaar will be
on the Sunday of the street fair (Nov. 18) and the bake sale will be on both
days. Please bake something home made. Cookies and fudge are big sellers and I
would like to sell them by the dozen. Please make something or come to help.
We are updating our mailing list so if you want changes please put my mailing
box so we can get up to date on the latest moves etc..
We have a lot to be thankful for this THANKSGIVING DAY: One of the things is
that we are ABLE to volunteer for our VETS and COMMUNITY. Please get behind our
volunteer officers and make a showing.
Watch for date of early bird dinner! I will be out of town Nov. 1---4 and Roxene
will be on tap for any Auxiliary questions.
HAPPY HOLIDAY--SHARE IT WITH A FRIEND.
HOLD THE PRESS
Last minute activity: On Saturday, November 17 we will have a fun night to raise
a few bucks to finish our front yard. Kent Moser will do his famous burgers and
Mike Burns and his friend Jer will furnish live music. Some of our bake sale
will be available so come on down and get in on the fun. Food will be served the
regular time, at 5:30 and party will follow. Lots of good music from very good
volunteers.
Our Chaplain Connielou Caldwell needs greeting cards and grooming samples for her visit to the Women's Facility in Northern California. Some of these women incarcerated are veterans that were homeless down on their luck in non-violent crimes. Please look around and see what you have from your travels etc. Thanks

1st Vice President's Report -
Ladies, I mentioned in the newsletter last month that this month your names would be listed if your dues hadn't been paid yet. Well, surprise, National decided to mail notices out after all, although a little late. So for those of you that haven't paid yet, please do so now with the notice you will be receiving and for those of you that already paid, just ignore the notice and toss it. I also need to be aware if your address has changed so I can send a notice to District so you receive future information from them.
I want to thank all of you that came to my salad/chicken/stuffed tomato dinner. It was a great success and we made over $200 for the Auxiliary. We need others to step up and cook a nice dinner. If you would rather donate a dinner and not cook it, we can deal with that also. Just let us know.
As for Christmas, instead of bathrobes this year for our injured "Warriors" down at Balboa Hospital, we have been asked to supply WHITE BATH TOWELS -- Not bath sheets, but just a simple bath towel (plain). We need over 100 this year as there are over 125 plus wounded at the hospital including two other facilities. We will need them by the first week of December, so please start bringing them in. They don't need to be Xmas wrapped, just put in a bag so they stay clean since they are white. This is a simple request from these warriors. Please let's accommodate them with this request, they don't ask for much.
Everyone, please enjoy a great Thanksgiving holiday and thank you for your support for our "Wounded Warriors" at Balboa Hospital and the Warrior Foundation who help us do great things for them.
Don't forget to send your dues to me. $15 seniors/$5 juniors (new members/seniors $20/new members/Juniors $5)
Roxene McGrory, 1st Vice and Membership
2nd Vice President's Report -
October was the Post month for dinners and they did quite a nice job. Now ladies November is our month and I would like to make sure everyone comes to the dinners. Nov 3rd is the early bird dinner. Followed Nov. 10th by Connielou’s Famous Lasagna or if she has to have her operation, then it will be Kim who also makes some to die for Lasagna. On Nov 17th & 18th we will have our Great Bake Sale. All Bake Goods should be brought in on Sat and Sun. morning during the Bazaar (we are trying to have a great bake sale), we don’t need store bought, we can get that at home. (I know that you all can bake great things, I’m the only one that can’t cook or bake, so you don’t have an excuse.)
Shirley Reeves, 2nd Vice President
MISCELLANEOUS
BINGO:
DUE TO LACK OF PARTICIPATION AND LACK OF INTEREST FROM POST 416 MEMBERS, THERE WILL BE NO BINGO DURING THE MONTHS OF NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER.
We will attempt to come up with a different and more inviting “Program” for the coming year and will resume Bingo Night on Monday, 7 January 2008.
If participation doesn’t increase to a profitable level, BINGO WILL BE TERMINATED PERMANENTLY!
We have had a “14 year run” and made tons of money for the post. This past year has not been amongst our most successful.
If any of our members would like to “take over this program”, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO DO SO. Believe me, you will NOT be hurting my or Shirley’s feelings.
Perry Comeau & Shirley Reeves
GOLF TOURNAMENT:
I want to thank all the golfers that showed up for our Auxiliary Golf Tournament. I do not have a final total on the profits, but I think we did pretty good.
THANKS AGAIN:
Shirley Reeves, Co-Chair
EARLY BIRD DINNER:
NO TAKEOUTS on the EARLY BIRD DINNER except for SHUT-INS. I'm sure our membership chairman will have the roster to make sure everyone has a 2008 card.
I'm sure the Early bird Salmon dinner is going to be great. It is being prepared by Don Gilbert and our 2nd Vice Chris Gary.
Shirley Reeves
Re-Cycling:
I again want to thank everyone that is helping me re-cycle. BUT, Someone is not getting the message. I’m still getting a lot of bottles that I am not able to re-cycle. Water and soda bottles are all that re-cycle (no juice or beer bottles).
Also please take the lids off the bottles. You are doing a great job with the cans, there again all I want is beer and soda cans ONLY.Shirley Reeves, Re-cycling Queen
Fund Raiser Dance:
Get out your poodle skirts and slick back your duck-tails. We are having a 50’s/60’s theme dance on Saturday, November 17th. Hamburgers will be cooked by Kent Moser. Music will be provided by Mike and Jer. This fun event will provide funds for the much needed sprinkler system in the Post.
