2nd Vice Commander's Report -

Last month was a lot of fun with a 60s Birthday in the club and a great dinner put on by the Oceanside Auxiliary.

Big thanks to John Noonan and his wife for cooking and donating a dinner. Same goes to all of our cooks that step up. We just need more of them. The SALs are coming around and are really helping the Post now – Great Job!

We have had some very generous donations for our “Retire the Debt” thermometer.  Boy, I hope everyone knows what this is for finally.

The Super Bowl party went very well and a Big thanks to the winner.

I have a new Special Event Application that must be filled out and approved 30 days before anything is scheduled at the Post from now on. The forms are at the Post or I can e-mail a template to you.

I am sad to say that we are losing a lot of energy. Maria is leaving to go home. We are losing a friend, bartender, and a great cook and promoter. Good luck to you Maria!

The Fat Tuesday party to raise funds to buy backpacks for children of active duty military personnel overseas was a Huge Success. Kent and Amy Moser put on the event with help   from Kent MacNeill. Bo and the band provided great music. As always, Amy’s decorations and enthusiasm and Kent’s incredible cooking were largely responsible for the turnout and ensured that everyone had a fantastic time. Three birthdays were celebrated in the middle of all the Mardi Gras Madness, with the cake supplied by Kent. Thanks also to all who attended and gave to this worthy cause.

Chaplain's Report -

I was recently informed of the passing of long time member and proud legionnaire of 23 years Thomas E. Anderson of Carlsbad.  Our sincere sympathies are extended to his family and friends.

It was reported to me that Col. Kelly dropped in at the post for a short visit and was looking good.  I was sure glad to hear that.  Your prayers are appreciated for the complete recovery of Don Reeves.  I am planning on playing in the forthcoming Golf Tournament and sure would like Don to join me

AUXILIARY NEWS

President's Report -

Happy Irish March to all you Ladies:

We are looking forward to March and all the festivities for Saint Patrick's Day.  I want to thank Nancy our 2nd Vice who was not feeling well for taking over Roxene's

chair position in her absence.  I also want to thank Jo Maus for swearing in our two

new members at a moment's notice. Welcome Barbara Nommesen and  her sweet

mom Elaine.

Our Mardi Gras was a greet success thanks to Amy for planning it all, Mom Louise

for greeting everyone with gay colored beads, Kent for cooking up delicious food,

and the band for swinging cheerful music.

As president when there is not a chairman for one of our committee's I am obligated

to take that chairmanship. Now I'm without an officer. I need a Chaplain to take this

office for the rest of the year (until June). She is the Big Kahuna, In Ancient Hawaiian it means spiritual leader. Her mission was to serve our veterans and the community.  I will do my best to fill this office until someone steps up and answers the call.

 UNIT CHAPLAINS REPORT:

I visited Merry Culhane in Rehab and took her some bright Tulips and Carnations

to help brighten up her day and a card signed by both Post and Unit ladies.

As of December I am the new District Chaplain. I have sent out all the death notices

for our unit that were not sent to district so they can be registered with the department deceased membership list for this year.

God Bless You all.

Connielou Caldwell, President

1st Vice President's Report -

Ladies,

We are fast approaching our "goal" deadline for 100%.  Thanks to all those that have paid their dues, we have reached our short-term goals, but we really need the rest of you to get your dues in for the year.  Please call me if you aren't sure you have paid or not.  If your last card is 2008, you need to send me double dues ($30) to get your 2009 and 2010 cards.  I can't process 2010 cards without catching up on your 2009 and there are several of you out there that need to stay with us and get up to date.  We don't want to lose you.  The "Department" is getting ready to do the 2011 Membership Roster and if you haven't paid the 2009 and 2010, you will not be on the roster and will not get a renewal notice in July 2010.  The Department is preparing their new membership database, so at their end, things should run smoother once this is done.  This will be a good thing as last year the renewal notices didn't get sent until September when our dues came  due in July.

Thank you Nancy, for sitting in  my "chair position" at our last meeting that I wasn't able to attend and  thank you to all those that voted in our new member Lorri Grah- welcome Lorri. Hope to see you at our next meeting March 2 at 7PM. We will swear you in at that time.

Don't forget, if you have an address change, I need to know immediately to let the Department know so their roster is up to date.  If you let them know directly, I still need to know to keep our  own records accurate.  Let me know if you have email addresses.  You can also get your newsletter on-line and that saves us on our postage.

Bingo

Recently, in the local newspaper, you may have seen pictures of our Commander presenting checks to several Veterans' Programs.  One for $2000.00 to the Veterans' Village of San Diego, and one for $2000.00 to Operation Homefront that helps returning veterans cope with related problems.  Additionally, the Bingo Program also contributes to the Wounded Warriors at the U.S. Naval Hospital.  This year, the Post is sending three boys from our local high schools to the Boys State Program in Sacramento.  There, for one week, they are privy to the workings and intricacies of State Government. Some of our Presidents were Boys Staters from  their home state including former President Bill Clinton.  Cost:  Approximately $700.00 per boy.

The point of the above paragraph is to show you where "your" bingo money goes.  So please tell your friends and neighbors about our program and assure them that all profits go toward helping our Veterans and their families and the Boys and Girls (Auxiliary) Programs.

All our help are Volunteers................
