April 2008

Commander's Comments -

Because of the lengthy issues at the March meeting we were not able to finish the first nominations for the post nominations for the post officers.

The second nominations will be at the regular meeting for April on April 9th.  It is very important that people show up and put your name up as a candidate to fill up these positions. Ballots will be printed with the names of all candidates prior to election day, at our regular meeting Wednesday, May 24th.

As of today, Wednesday March 19th, I and the 2nd vice have not found a post member to cook a single dinner in April!

I know there are many people who are angry about issues that have not been settled to their liking at this point in time, but for the good of the post we need people for Saturday nights. If nobody comes forward to assist there may be not be any dinners for April.

There are raffle tickets still on sale at the bar for only $10 for the U.S. Open. The drawing will be Sunday June 1st after our annual golf tournament. The tickets for the U.S. Open are unattainable anywhere at this date.

Don’t forget to sign up for the “Pub Crawl” before all seats on the bus are taken.  Date of the Crawl is May 17th (Armed Forces Day).  Sign up is required by May 9, 2008.

Chaplain's Report -

And Jesus said, “Let those of you who have not sinned cast the first stone”……….

John Kentera, forever member of our Post is under the weather.  Your prayers are requested. After in and out sessions in the hospital for various medical reasons, Whitey Mettam is on the road to being his old self again.  We wish him the best.  At last report, Roy Blackburn was recovering nicely; that’s good news!!!

Adjutant's Report -

A heavily attended general meeting of the Post took place on March 12th.  So many people came there was standing room only. Talk about members taking an interest in their Post! I've never seen anything like it and it was good to see so many Post members at a meeting.

Boys State is coming up soon. If you are interested in being one of the interviewers contact Dennis "Mac" McGrory. It's a good program for our young high school students. The general membership voted to pay the Post insurance policies for a 12 month period. As for the doors that need to be replaced in the club room, that issue has (as of this date) not been solved yet.  Hopefully it will be resolved soon.

A vote was taken of the assembled Post members to decide to approve or disapprove the ratification of bar manager Jenna Jones position. Votes were taken by ballot. 40% of the general membership voted in favor of the bar managers ratification. 60% of the membership voted against it. Moments after the result of the voting was announced, Club Chairman Joe Farrell said that he was re-hiring the bar manager.

I'd like to thank each and every one of you who took the time and made the effort to come and vote in a democratic election at YOUR Post. If you have any questions as to how or why one individual overturned the vote of the 60% majority of Post members, please direct your questions to the one man responsible for taking that action, Club Chairman Joe Farrell.

The next General Meeting will take place on Wednesday, April 9th at 6 PM.  I hope to see you there. Democracy only works when we make it work!

SAL NEWS

SAL Commander's Report -

Five members attended the March SAL meeting and some progress was made. A decision was made to pay the SAL housekeeping bill on a quarterly basis. The monthly bill is $150. The quarterly bill comes to $450. As of March 11, 2008, the SAL account has $4,176.97 in the bank. Way to go SAL's!

A SAL committee has been formed to establish a set of by-laws for the organization. Hopefully this committee will meet every two weeks to write up new by-laws which will help the SAL's function better. All SAL's are of course encouraged to attend the next meeting which will take place on Tuesday, April 8th at 6:30 PM. I hope to see more SAL members there.

To all Post, Auxiliary, and SAL members and all guests, if you missed our St. Patrick's Day dinner of corned beef and cabbage by Donna Beaulieu, you missed out on one of the best dinners of the year.  She did it all and it was delicious.  Thank you Donna for supporting our Auxiliary by stepping up to do another dinner.

As I said last month, get the clubs ready and clear your schedule, we are having the Post 416 Golf Tourney on June 1st 2008 at Lake San Marcos.

They are not giving us as good of price as they used too, so the more golfers we get the better the price and the more money we can put toward our fund raiser, (Boy's State).   We are also trying to get Hole sponsors, so if you can help us with that, Kris would appreciate your efforts, he is in charge of hole sponsors

The sign up board is in the Club room, but when you sign up put your check in my box, Finance or Kris, 2nd Vice Commander’s Box.
